You do not need a referral to book at ADHD Klinik. You can book directly through our online booking system or email info@adhdklinik.com. We are registered with Sygeforsikring Danmark (groups 1, 2, 5, and 6). If you are 25 or younger and have a GP referral, you may be eligible for reimbursement covering assessment and psychotherapy. Reimbursement does not cover medication treatment. If you have private health insurance (e.g. through your employer), you pay us directly and apply for reimbursement with the detailed receipt we always provide.
Yes, we offer full assessment and treatment in Danish, English, Norwegian, and Swedish. We prefer the clinical interview (step 1) and first psychiatric consultation to take place in person at our clinic on Fiolstræde 14, but after that, therapy, medication adjustments, and follow-ups can be conducted online. This also applies to clients across Denmark and Danish expats abroad. In rare cases, we offer weekend assessments with a surcharge of 500 DKK per hour. A 2-hour clinical interview costs e.g. 4,200 DKK on weekends compared to 3,200 DKK on weekdays.
ADHD Klinik primarily assesses and treats adults aged 18 and over. Our diagnostic tools (DIVA-5, clinical interview, self-report scales) and our psychiatrists' medication expertise are specifically geared toward adults with ADHD and ADD. In some cases, we can accept clients who are 17 if they turn 18 during the course of the assessment. For children and adolescents under 17, we recommend contacting your GP for a referral to a child and adolescent psychiatric department.
You can book online through our booking system, email info@adhdklinik.com, or call +45 42 62 00 51 during phone hours (Monday and Thursday 15:30-17:00). We aim to respond within two business days. The clinic is located at Fiolstræde 14, 1st floor, 1171 Copenhagen K, in the Latin Quarter near Nørreport Station (approx. 5 min walk).
ADHD assessment
ADD is an older term for the primarily inattentive type of ADHD, meaning ADHD without the hyperactive component. Today, the term ADHD covers all three presentations: primarily inattentive (formerly ADD), primarily hyperactive-impulsive, and combined type. The inattentive type is more often overlooked, particularly in women, because symptoms are less visible than classic hyperactivity. At ADHD Klinik Copenhagen, we assess all three forms using DIVA-5, the diagnostic interview recommended by the Danish Health Authority. Whether you use the term ADD or ADHD, the assessment process is the same. DSM-5 defines the diagnostic criteria with 18 symptoms across inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity.
An ADHD assessment at ADHD Klinik follows five steps. Step 1 is a clinical interview and screening (approx. 2 hours, 3,200 DKK), where we conduct a broad psychopathological screening because concentration difficulties can stem from many things beyond ADHD. After the session, we send relevant self-report questionnaires for you to complete at home and return before the next session. Step 2 is diagnostic assessment with DIVA-5, where we recommend bringing a relative (approx. 2 hours, 3,500 DKK). If the screening points to other factors, e.g. autism, we add the anamnestic interview (AAA, 3,500 DKK). Step 3 is feedback, where the psychologist compiles the assessment into a written report with treatment plan and reviews it with you (3,000 DKK). Step 4 is medication with our psychiatrist including somatic screening (2,500 DKK + follow-ups at 1,200 DKK). Step 5 is therapy and follow-up as needed (1,200 DKK/session). From first contact to stable treatment typically takes 2-3 months.
All new clients start with the clinical interview, including those with an existing diagnosis. This is for several reasons: external diagnoses vary in quality, and research shows that 70-80% of everyone with ADHD has at least one comorbid condition such as anxiety, depression, or trauma that changes the treatment plan. Concentration difficulties can also appear in many conditions. The interview ensures we see the full picture so the psychiatrist can create the best possible treatment plan for you. It is not a repetition but a quality assurance that often uncovers factors the previous assessment missed.
Yes, many adults first discover their ADHD in their 30s, 40s, or later. This is especially true for the predominantly inattentive type (formerly ADD), which is often overlooked because symptoms are less visible than hyperactivity. Women are particularly underdiagnosed because ADHD in women more often presents as inner restlessness, emotional dysregulation, and difficulty organizing daily life rather than classic hyperactivity. Many have developed compensatory strategies that mask symptoms. If you recognize persistent problems with concentration, planning, impulsivity, or emotion regulation, an assessment can provide clarity. Our ASRS screening on the website (18 questions, 5 minutes) can be a good starting point.
Yes, concentration difficulties and impulsivity can appear in many conditions: anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma (PTSD), sleep disorders, and substance use. That is why we always start with a comprehensive psychopathological screening (F0-F9) that covers the full clinical picture across 8 psychiatric domains. This is crucial for ensuring a correct diagnosis and avoiding incorrect medication. Our model with both psychologists and psychiatrists provides multiple clinical perspectives on the same presentation. If during the assessment we find it is not ADHD, we continue the assessment in the same process with the same psychologist.
For the DIVA-5 interview (step 2), we recommend bringing someone who knew you as a child, such as a parent, sibling, or other close relative. DSM-5 requires that ADHD symptoms were present before age 12, and a relative's perspective significantly strengthens the assessment of childhood symptoms, because many adults with ADHD have difficulty remembering their own childhood precisely. The informant participates in part of the session where the clinician asks questions about your behavior as a child. If it is not possible to bring a relative, we find alternative ways to gather the information, such as school reports, old medical records, or detailed questionnaires.
After the assessment, you receive a written epicrisis with your diagnosis and an individual treatment plan. The epicrisis can be used as documentation for employers, educational institutions, insurance companies, or other healthcare providers. If ADHD is confirmed and medication is relevant, you book an appointment with our psychiatrist. The first consultation includes somatic screening and medication selection. This is followed by follow-up consultations for dose optimization. The psychiatrist retains treatment responsibility for a minimum of 6 months before your GP can take over ongoing prescriptions. Your GP can generally only continue the same dose or reduce it. You can always continue with us beyond the 6 months or return at a later time. We also offer psychotherapy and psychoeducation tailored to your needs.

Diagnostic tools and methods
DIVA-5 (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults) is the most widely used diagnostic interview for ADHD in adults in Denmark, recommended by the Danish Health Authority in the national clinical guidelines. It systematically reviews all DSM-5 criteria for ADHD, divided into 9 symptoms of inattention and 9 symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity, for both current symptoms and childhood symptoms. The interview is semi-structured, meaning the clinician can follow up with clarifying questions based on your answers. We recommend that a relative participates to validate childhood symptoms. DIVA-5 was developed by the DIVA Foundation in the Netherlands and has been translated into over 20 languages.
At ADHD Klinik, psychologists conduct the clinical interview, administer the diagnostic tools (DIVA-5), and make the diagnosis independently. The psychologists are clinical psychologists with supervised practice training (the title that replaced 'authorized psychologist' under Denmark's new Psychology Act from January 1, 2026) and have experience from both public and private psychiatry. Psychiatrists contribute medical evaluation, somatic and cardiovascular screening, and manage ADHD medication treatment. It is a collaboration between psychiatrist and psychologist, where the psychologist is the primary assessor and the psychiatrist the medical specialist. Both professions are licensed and supervised by the Danish Patient Safety Authority. The advantage of this model is that you get assessment, medication, and therapy all under one roof.
An epicrisis is the written diagnostic report you receive after your assessment at ADHD Klinik. It contains your diagnosis (or conclusion if ADHD is not confirmed), a clinical evaluation of your cognitive functions, results from the diagnostic tests, and an individual treatment plan with recommendations for next steps. The epicrisis is an official health document that can be used to document your diagnosis for other healthcare providers, your GP, employers (e.g. for workplace accommodations), educational institutions (SPS support), insurance companies, or municipal caseworkers. You receive the epicrisis as part of the feedback session (step 3).
ASRS v1.1 (Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale) is a screening tool developed by WHO in collaboration with Harvard Medical School. The test on our website contains all 18 questions: Part A with 6 screening questions that are most predictive of ADHD, and Part B with 12 supplementary questions that provide a broader picture. The test takes about 5 minutes and is completely anonymous. Your answers are not saved or sent to any server; everything is processed locally in your browser. ASRS is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. A high score does not mean you have ADHD, but that it may be worth speaking with a professional. The screening can be a good starting point if you are considering an assessment.
Treatment and therapy
Medication treatment for ADHD is managed by our two psychiatrists, Rasmus Wæhrens (specialist in psychiatry, PhD) and Martin Bergholtz (senior psychiatry resident). The first psychiatric consultation takes approximately 1 hour (2,500 DKK) and includes somatic and cardiovascular screening, medication selection, and an initiation plan. Methylphenidate is the first-line choice, and approximately 70% respond to it. This is followed by 2 follow-up consultations of 30 minutes (1,200 DKK) over 4-8 weeks for dose optimization and side effect monitoring. You do not need a separate referral to a psychiatrist. Once a stable dose is achieved, typically after at least 6 months of specialist follow-up, your GP can take over ongoing prescription management.
Our psychologists work eclectically, meaning every therapy process is tailored to the individual client. We don't believe in manual-based therapy, but in a meeting between two people, where we draw on the approaches that make sense for you specifically. This may include psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), schema therapy, narrative therapy, trauma treatment (CPT), or psychoeducation. Psychoeducation is an important part of ADHD treatment and covers understanding your diagnosis, strategies for planning and structure, emotion regulation, and stress management. Research shows that the combination of medication and therapy yields the best outcomes. Therapy costs 1,200 DKK per session and can take place at the clinic on Fiolstræde 14 or online.
Practical information
In the public system, an ADHD assessment is free, but the wait is typically 1.5-3 years according to the Rigsrevisionen (National Audit Office) report from 2024. At ADHD Klinik, we have short wait times, and a full ADHD assessment with medication initiation typically costs 14,600 DKK. We use the same diagnostic tools as the public system, including DIVA-5 as recommended by the Danish Health Authority. The advantages of private assessment are short wait times, flexible booking, and assessment, medication, and therapy all under one roof with psychologist and psychiatrist. You pay per session and are not locked into a full pathway. All new clients start with the clinical interview, regardless of any existing diagnosis.
